West Friendship Engineering was established in 2005 by Theodore Goodman. He has forty years of experience in the RF environment. Starting in 1980 as a co-op at the National Security Agency at Ft. Meade, MD, he gained invaluable
experience in the Special Operations Office until 1988, running the division from 1986 to 1988. He then ventured into the government contracting arena at Stanford Telecom working with multiple government agencies. In 1995 he joined a small start-up company, Sigtek, in Columbia, MD. This was great fun, a whole new exciting world. Working crazy hours with a great team on both government sponsored and commercial projects as well and internal developments, he developed much of his detailed design expertise there. This is where the seed was planted to strike out on his own. Sigtek was acquired in 2001 by Filtronic and became Filtronic Sigtek. He made that decision to create his own start-up in 2005 and never looked back. Starting as a home-based business, he soon ventured out to an office in Columbia, MD then expanded to his current space in Ellicott City, MD in 2019. We expanded there adding Jessica as our full-time office manager in 2019. Wearing many hats, she is not only the office manager, but also our purchaser and oversees of the books. She also assembles and tests much of our production efforts being solely responsible for the tuning of our production high power filters. Katerina joined us in 2020 in both an administrative roll, assists in production assembly and testing. Amanda (part-time) and Johnathan (intern) round out our office family. We also work with wonderful external contractors for PCB layout, mechanical design, and digital/firmware assistance. We have worked extensively with them for many years and are invaluable to our success.
West Friendship Engineering was founded in 2005 as a home-based start-up supporting small businesses with both government sponsored contracts and with developing commercial products. After years of growth establishing a solid customer base and building an impressive lab with both testing and assembly capabilities, WFE opened an office in Columbia, MD. WFE relocated to a larger office in Ellicott City in 2019 to support new personnel and to enlarge laboratory and production space.
West Friendship Engineering started as a personal challenge and has grown into a respected small business. This could not have happened without our great customers, support contractors, everyone who leant a helping hand throughout the years, and especially our tiny office family.
